Matt Davis, a May 2009 Elon graduate, presented a research paper on Nov. 1 at a scholarly conference of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Association for Asian Studies at Villanova University.
Davis’s paper, “Loanwords in Lyrics: An Audience-Oriented Study of English in J-Pop Music,” examines English-language loan words in Japanese popular music. He researched and wrote his paper as an undergraduate working with his academic mentor, Glenn Scott, an assistant professor in the School of Communications.
Davis earned bachelor’s degrees in International Studies and Business. He wrote the paper as an Elon College fellow. He and Scott collaborated because of their interests in Japan. Davis conducted research while studying for one semester at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan.
