Kimberly Jones, an engineering professor from Howard University who specializes in nanotechnology with an emphasis on biomedical and environmental applications, will deliver a Voices of Discovery lecture at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, in McCrary Theatre.
The relatively new field of nanotechnology, or engineering on an atomic and molecular scale, is projected to revolutionize many aspects of human life. The rapid design and use of novel nanoparticles in medicine and industry has led to questions about the short- and long-term impacts on living systems and the natural environment. Jones, a civil engineer at Howard University, has years of experience in the field and is currently working on a National Science Foundation project to explore the potential hazards of this developing technology.
Jones’ lecture is titled “Environmental Nanotechnology: Discerning the influence of nanomaterials in our world.”
