Norman Leonard, a Class of 2009 graduate of Elon University School of Law, has been awarded the Sir Frederick Pollock Scholarship by University College London (UCL). The scholarship is given annually to an outstanding North American law graduate pursuing a Master of Laws degree at UCL.
Leonard, who served as Editor in Chief of the Elon Law Review, matriculated into UCL’s Master of Laws program (LL.M.) in the fall of 2009. He has selected intellectual property law as his primary area of focus.
Elon Law professor Henry Gabriel said Leonard’s achievement was significant.
“Since UCL regularly attracts many outstanding law graduates from top American and Canadian law schools, this is quite an honor for both Norm and Elon,” Gabriel said.
The Sir Frederick Pollock Scholarship is awarded based on students’ academic merit prior to their arrival at UCL. Leonard will be recognized for his achievements at a UCL banquet in March, 2010.
Leonard said that while the LL.M. program was challenging, he felt well prepared.
“The Intellectual Property and International Commercial Law courses I had at Elon really gave me a head start on some of the topics we’re studying here in London,” Leonard said. “I felt really prepared for my studies when I arrived.”
UCL, the third oldest university in England, was ranked fourth in the world in the 2009 Times Higher Education-QS rankings, after Harvard, the University of Cambridge, and Yale University.
