Elon’s Triathlon Club competed in a seven mile run at Cedarock Park on Saturday. Laura Brentrup and Leah Darkes finished first place in their respective age groups – Brentrup finishing 4th overall for women (56:59). Triathlon Club President Stephen Rusterholz led all club members finishing 23rd overall (55:18).
The challenging course was already filled with steep hills and tough corners, but according to Rusterholz, the most difficult task for the 360 participants was overcoming the cold weather and rain. Despite those obstacles, the club members still did a very good job racing to the best of their abilities, while still making sure they finished safely.
“Everyone’s dedication was apparent this semester,” said Rusterholz. “Every race we have gone to, at least a few members finish high overall and bring home some sort of award whether for their age group and or overall place. I believe that the members of the Triathlon Club have really bonded together and helped each other push themselves higher.”
With the semester ending, Rusterholz is pleased that the club finished on a positive note and is looking forward to what the spring has to offer.
“I can’t wait to see what is going to happen this spring. All I know is that if the dedication is this high, we will be taking home a lot of awards.”
