The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., published a column by Jeffrey Coker, an assistant professor of biology, in its Dec. 11 edition. "Energy savings come home" shares with readers the steps that Coker and his family took to save money and help the environment as it relates to their own power and water consumption.
From the column:
“Although I strongly support the use of alternative energies such as wind and solar, the public debate has focused too much on the creation of energy and not enough on the general public’s reducing energy use. If we put forth even a minimal effort, we could reduce carbon emissions by 17 percent today without being inconvenienced or financially burdened or further taxed.”
