Elon University has created a new web page for the campus community to share news and information on outreach efforts following the January 12, 2010, earthquake that killed more than 100,000 people in Haiti. The page, www.elon.edu/haiti, lists fundraising events, updates and awareness campaigns sponsored by student organizations, classes and individuals at the university.
The site also includes a list of nonprofit organizations with a presence in Haiti for people interested in donating money to ongoing relief efforts, as well as updates on students whose families were directly impacted by the disaster.
“Elon University recognizes that the impact of the earthquake in Haiti is far reaching and requires a global response,” said Brian O’Shea, assistant to the vice president of student life and dean of students, who serves as a point of contact for groups wishing to organize campus events. “The Haiti response site will provide a comprehensive look at how the campus is impacted and responding to the devastation there.
“We encourage all students, faculty and staff to contribute information to the site and visit the site frequently to learn more about how they can assist in the recovery efforts right here on campus.”
