Mathematics professors Alan Russell, Kirstie Doehler and Lisa Beuerle presented at a TEAMS (Teachers Empowering All Students in Mathematics and Science) workshop on January 29, 2010. The workshop was funded by an NSF mathematics partnership grant with Vance, Alamance, and Orange Counties.
The goal of the workshop was to provide content knowledge in math and science to elementary and middle school teachers. Elon University was able to get involved with the program with the help of project director and professor Janice Richardson.
Russell presented material related to measurement. Doehler presented material related to data analysis. Beuerle presented material related to geometry.
Russell, Doehler, and Beuerle presented to current teachers and stressed the use of inquiry-based learning in the classroom and providing connections in content between different grade levels. The group will be presenting again at a second TEAMS workshop in March 2010.
