Stephen DeLoach, Professor of Economics, and Thomas Tiemann, Professor of Economics, presented a paper, “The American Carpool Makes a Come Back?” on Feb. 27 at the 36th Annual Conference of the Eastern Economic Association meetings in Philadelphia. DeLoach also served as the chair of the session on “Energy Topics.”
Using data from the American Time Use Survey, DeLoach and Tiemann found that carpooling is more responsive to rising gasoline prices than previously thought, that people who are more social are more likely to join a carpool, and that many Americans combine a number of transportation modes on their trip to work.
