Nearly 90 percent of the members of Elon University School of Law's charter class were employed nine months after their May 2009 graduation. Based on criteria established by the National Association of Law Placement (NALP), Elon Law reported an 89.7 percent job placement rate for 2009 graduates as of February 15, the date set by NALP for all participating law schools to report employment data.
According to Chris Smith, director of career services at Elon Law, the placement rate indicates strong progress for Elon Law graduates, especially in light of a historically challenging job market.
“As a new law school, we are pleased to know that so many Elon Law graduates have been selected among a competitive field of applicants in a difficult job cycle,” Smith said. “The legal community continues to respond positively to Elon Law students and graduates, and to the law school’s distinctive program of study that emphasizes practical experience and leadership development around the core study of law.”
Smith said the law school is expanding its programs to identify placement opportunities for alumni and current students.
“We continue to work aggressively to assist alumni and current students to identify employment opportunities, both for summer internships and after graduation,” Smith said.
In addition to the those reporting employment, three graduates from the Class of 2009 are pursuing a Master of Laws degree, at the London School of Economics, American University, and the University of Georgia, and one is pursuing a Master of Library and Information Science degree at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
