“This award is given in honor of Colleen Newsome, who was United Way’s campaign director for 40 years. The award is given to a campaign cabinet member who goes above and beyond in the areas of enthusiasm and creativity, attending cabinet meetings and events, following up, and following through, and recruitment of support volunteers. All the criteria were qualities Colleen admired in a cabinet member.
“This year’s award goes to a pair of ladies who attended almost all of the cabinet meetings and volunteered at almost every event. They used their creativity to make ‘starter packets’ for each company in their division, sent out an initial letter and then went door to door to each company to have a one-on-one, face-to-face visit with their CEO and coordinator to convey the United Way message and to try to get them involved or further involved. These two cabinet members even went to the extreme as to set up a meeting with us to convey their concerns and let us know what changes they would like to see regarding the cabinet and United Way. We couldn’t ask for more honest and hard working individuals in our cabinet. Please help me welcome this year’s award winners, Tammy Cobb and Jenny Faulkner of the Education Division.”
