Men’s Rugby Rallies Late for Victory Over Davidson
Men’s Rugby
Elon vs. Davidson, 27-26 (Win)
Elon started strong, but Davidson got the first try coming off of a breakaway. Elon fought their way back thanks to Britton Brown, who scored off of a maul on a lineout to make it 7-7. Soon after, Michael Gallagher had his first kick to make it 10-7. Davidson struck next, making it 12-10 on another breakaway try because of a missed tackle, and then made it 19-10 early in the second half off of an 8-man pick to score a try. Elon fought back when Dan Miller kicked the ball into the try zone and Dave Carroll jumped on it for his first career try, making it 19-17. Davidson came back to scored again (26-17), but Elon showed some heart in the end, first driving down the field to score again off of a lineout and maul (Brown) to make it 26-24. With two minutes left, lineout Gallagher took a drop kick for points to put Elon up by one point, a lead that they held to win the game 27-26. They hope to keep up the hard work when they play Duke away on March 20th.
