Columbia, Md: The Howard County Economic Development Authority’s communications and marketing intern will obtain real-world experience through assisting with writing news releases and disseminating them to local media outlets, developing advertisements and Web site management.
Possible work items
Work with Alice Settle-Raskin (Communications Manager) and other staff on:
- Writing articles for Business Monthly’s Economic Development focus section (pub. Aug.), and The Authority – EDA’s newsletter (pub. Aug.)
- Event Management – Assist with details for the Authority’s annual meeting – from designing and printing postcards to writing and disseminating news releases, to writing the annual report
- Developing News Releases (writing them in AP Style)
- Writing features for website including features for The Center and the Agricultural Marketing Program
- Perform Market Research – such as compiling demographics, census data on Howard County, and other lists for distribution
- Design Howard Ag Newsletter in InDesign
- Marketing (Developing Ads and placing them … will gain hands-on experience with InDesign and other Adobe programs)
- Web site Management
Skills Necessary: Writing and working knowledge of Microsoft products Word, PowerPoint, Excel
Other Preferred Skills: Graphic layout and Design Skills plus Web Management Skills – Working knowledge of the Adobe-based programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe In-Design and DreamWeaver.
