Hugh Stevens, the president of the North Carolina Open Government Coalition, expressed his gratitude to the various organizations that have supported the coalition at the beginning of Sunshine Day on March 16. The event was hosted at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro, N.C.
Among the organizations he thanked were WRAL, the North Carolina Press Association, the Charlotte Observer, the Raleigh News & Observer, the North Carolina Cable TV Association and Elon University. The coalition has a partnership with the university, which houses the organization’s Sunshine Center.
“We would not have any of this without the incredible support of Elon,” Stevens said. “Staff, financial and student support.”
Stevens said the coalition is close to raising enough money to match the Knight Foundation Grant it received. He said the overall goal is to raise $250,000.
