Nominations for the annual Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching are now being accepted, and are due April 1, 2010. The award was established for the purpose of giving recognition to outstanding teachers at Elon, and is named in honor of the parents of President Emeritus J. Earl Danieley and his wife, Verona Daniels Danieley.
Nominations may be submitted by a faculty or department, administrative staff, or Senior members of Phi Kappa Phi or Omicron Delta Kappa.
The nomination packet should include a letter of support containing
• Name and department of the nominee, plus name of the nominator
• A description of creative, innovative, effective methods of teaching
• A description of the person’s efficient use of materials of instruction
• Any positive results of the teacher’s efforts
• Any other information pertinent to the nomination
A nominator may nominate only one person and nominees should be full-time faculty. Each nominator should put forth the name of one nominee only. Because this award recognizes sustained excellence in teaching, preference is given to candidates with 7+ years of teaching at Elon
Selection by secret ballot will be made by a committee consisting of three senior members of the Elon faculty, two previous Daniels-Danieley Award recipients, and two students. The award will be presented at the annual Faculty/Staff Awards Luncheon on May12, 2010.
A certificate of recognition and a monetary award are presented each year to a faculty member whose teaching is characterized by excellence.
