Communications associate professor Jessica Gisclair and AmeriCorps Vista staff member Rebekkah Goodman-Williams spent spring break with 15 Elon students on a weeklong service trip to the gulf coast of Mississippi, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005.
The team logged 45 volunteer hours by working on community rebuilding and learning about what happens following a natural disaster. Their volunteer service included painting a YMCA, serving in a food kitchen, digging ditches, installing insulation, clearing debris and a variety of yard work. This was the 23rd service trip that Elon has made to the area in the aftermath of Katrina and the third trip for Gisclair.
