Live Oak Communications, Elon’s student-run, full-service communications agency, is seeking qualified applicants for the fall of 2010. Live Oak develops and executes communications programs for businesses and not-for-profit organizations in the North Carolina region.
Services offered include public relations, advertising, special event marketing, viral marketing, media relations, Web site development, video creation and graphic design. Students from all majors and years are encouraged to apply for specific positions. All hired positions receive class credit and gain professional experience.
“Live Oak bridges the gap between creating hypothetical PR plans in a classroom and the actual implementation of strategies and tactics,” said Jennifer DiVenuti, director of Live Oak.
Positions available include: account executives, team leaders, creative team executives, creative director and assistant director
“In working with real world clients, both locally and nationally, we have the opportunity to work on websites, advertising campaigns, and promotional videos that help hone our creative capabilities,” said Lauren Warr, creative director for the agency.
Live Oak serves six to eight clients each semester, both on and off campus. Past clients have included Earth Share of North Carolina, the Alamance Veterinary Hospital, Pro Feet sports socks, the Durham Arts Council, Farm Bureau of Alamance County and the Edible School Yard of the Greensboro Children’s Museum.
Live Oak has a particular interest in students with business, marketing, art and design backgrounds, as well as students with communications expertise. Students may apply by filling out an application and returning it by April 9 to Professor Lee Bush, Campus Box 2850, or by turning it in to the School of Communications office.
Interviews will be conducted in mid-April by the director and assistant director.

Account Executives
The term “account executive” is a professional communications term used to describe individuals who work on a specific client account. Live Oak is structured into client teams made up of AEs who execute client communications plans. Work includes writing and pitching media releases, organizing events, developing social media and working with the creative team to develop videos, Web sites, advertisements and other graphic design projects. Team Leaders
Team leaders are in charge of managing individual client accounts. Along with a group of account executives, the team leader will develop campaigns plans and delegate responsibilities among AEs to ensure that the client reaches its particular communications goals. Creative Team Executives
Live Oak creative executives work with client account teams to develop creative elements such as logos and other graphic identities, Web sites, advertising layouts, online videos and more. Students applying for this position should have a strong artistic interest in visual technology. This opportunity provides a great way to add material to any art, business or communications portfolio. All majors and years are welcome to apply. Creative Director
The creative director will work closely with the director and faculty director to oversee the Like Oak creative team and all creative projects for agency clients. The position is for the full year. All majors are welcome to apply but applicant should be highly interested in the creative field. Assistant Director
The assistant director will work closely with the director and faculty director to oversee Live Oak Communications’ budget, account teams and promotional materials.
