Register before April 26 for Cougar Ecology Workshop hosted by Center for Environmental Studies

Elon University's Center for Environmental Studies is hosting a workshop from April 29-30 focused on cougar behavior, ecology and identification this month to be taught by Jim Halfpenny. This workshop is open to all who are interested, including ecologists, naturalists, educators, or outdoor-enthusiasts.

Halfpenny is a nationally renowned wildlife tracker, author, scientist and educator who is one of the world’s foremost experts on finding rare carnivore species. His work on Human/Cougar encounters is featured in The Beast in the Garden by David Baron. Halfpenny’s specialties include ecology, animal tracking, and mammalian carnivores; his greatest academic love, bears, led to 20 years studying black, grizzly and polar bears. He also works with wolverine, lynx, cougar and wolves.  Halfpenny has written over 25 books, including his latest, Yellowstone Bears in the Wild, and Track Plates for Mammals.

The registration fee is $100 for both days and includes handouts and plaster casting supplies and meals. Each participant will receive extensive handouts but might also want a notebook for writing. Cameras may be used to copy some displays and materials.
