Amanda Ketner ’11, Jan Mays and Alan Russell present at national meeting in San Diego

Amanda Ketner, a junior mathematics major seeking teaching licensure, along with Jan Mays, senior lecturer in mathematics, and Alan Russell, associate professor of mathematics, presented two sessions at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) annual conference in San Diego, April 20-24.

“A Secondary School Preservice Teacher Content Course Focused on Problem Solving” focused on Mays’ preparation and implementation of MTH 310 with Russell.  The session featured Ketner’s perspective as a student in the initial class.

“Investigating Students’ Concepts of Standard Deviation” reported the findings of Russell’s CATL Scholar project to a national audience. Ketner was prominently featured as a student co-investigator with Mays as project advisor.
