Anthony Hatcher, associate professor of communications, has published a review of a scholarly book in the Journal of Media and Religion.
The book, “Beyond the yellow badge: Anti-Judaism and Antisemitism in Medieval and Early Modern Visual Culture,” examines visual depictions of anti-semitism in European manuscripts, architecture, stained glass and art.
An excerpt from the review:
“Assorted essays in this book address period European works and deconstruct the clothing and headwear adorning Jewish characters carved into stone, etched into glass, and painted onto canvas. The volume begins in the Middle Ages and takes us through Rembrandt and the Renaissance up to Jewish Emancipation in the 18th and early 19th centuries.”
