Class of 2010 Business Fellows Recognized

The Business Fellows class of 2010 was recognized in a medallion ceremony held in the LaRose Digital Theatre on Friday, May 20.

After a welcome by Summer Curtiss, Drea Dorrow gave an overview of the Fellows’ accomplishments throughout the academic year, including a September 2009 visit to Wall Street. Kevin Swett shared the results of the Portfolio Management class, which involves managing a part of the Elon Endowment; their goal was to outperform the S&P 500 index. Scott Pearce gave a report on the Project Management team; projects included developing marketing strategies for Burlington Animal Shelter, Indian Valley Golf Course and high-school class projects at Western Alamance High School, as well as helping the Alamance County Intercouncil Agency for Homeless Assistance obtain 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

Love School of Business dean Mary Gowan gave the charge to the Business Fellows, noting that the class of 2010 is the first Business Fellows class to have been in the Koury Business Center since their freshman year. Dean Gowan, Management department chair Scott Buechler and Business Fellows director Carolina Gomez presented the twenty students with medallions. Fellows Elizabeth Ryder and Nathanial Jones thanked faculty for their support, including Deans Gowan and Casey Dirienzo, Carolina Gomez, Tom Tiemann, Tonya Riney, Project Management class advisor Coleman Rich and Portfolio Management class advisor Wonhi Synn.

The mission of the Business Fellows Program is to develop leaders among majors in accounting, business administration, and economics through academic challenge and by encouraging leadership in the Love School of Business and Elon University.
