From the Cary News (5/23/10): Fervor over the Wake County school board - and whether its members violated the state's Open Meetings Law by not moving recent meetings to accommodate large crowds - have spread to Morrisville.
Councilman Tom Murry wondered what might happen if the town should draw crowds to its meetings like those that overflowed from the school board’s boardroom as it weighed whether to end its diversity policy.
The American Civil Liberties Union sued Wake, claiming that school leaders created a ticket policy for meetings and chose not to change venues to stifle public participation. Wake County Superior Court Judge Bill Pittman rejected the ACLU’s argument on May 14.
As Pittman’s decision loomed, the Morrisville took stock of its own policy regarding open meetings.
