Hundreds of students, and nearly as many professors and administrators, mingled Wednesday afternoon on the green outside Moseley Center in the annual Senior Class Picnic for Graduates, Faculty and Staff. The informal event gives seniors a moment to relax over pork barbecue and grilled chicken with the Elon University educators who guided them through four years of study.
Elon University President Leo M. Lambert and his wife, Laurie, also attended the picnic, chatting with students and congratulating them on their pending graduation.
The event was organized by the Alumni Association with support from the Provost’s Office. Alumni office staff encouraged seniors to join IGNITE, the university’s young alumni giving program, by making a gift to their soon-to-be alma mater.
“I look forward to this day every year because it’s so festive,” said Sallie Hutton ’92, director of Alumni Relations. “Faculty and staff and students are coming together, and everyone is excited in anticipation of Saturday.”
Cut-out mortarboards hanging from a dining tent listed the names of students, parents and grandparents who have contributed to the senior class gift.
