Jay Reno ’10, a business administration major who graduated with honors last month, has been selected as a Green Plus Sustainability Fellow by the Green Plus Institute for Sustainable Development.
Reno minored in economics and, while at Elon, was a member of the Student Sustainability Council, the Elon Green Team and Chair of the Gift Giving Committee, which created a Sustainability Research Grant to fund undergraduate research in the field of sustainability. He was also elected senior class president.
As a Green Plus Sustainability Fellow, Reno is working in Arkansas for the Chamber of Commerce and is developing a communication and marketing plan for Green Plus. In the fall he’ll attend Harvard, where he plans to pursue a master’s degree with a concentration in sustainability and environmental management.
Elon’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business recently became an academic partner in the Green Plus Institute for Sustainable Development. Other academic partners include the Duke Center for International Development, the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke, and UNC’s Center for Global Initiatives and the UNC School of Social.
The Institute educates, motivates and recognizes small enterprises in their efforts toward greater sustainability. Institute initiatives include Green Plus, a program that provides training, networking, and recognition for small businesses and nonprofits working to be more competitive and sustainable. The Institute is based in Durham and Chapel Hill.
As a Green Plus affiliate, the Love School of Business will identify three local businesses to work with Elon students on Green Plus initiatives that best meet each company’s sustainability needs. Students will receive training from the institute then will work with designated companies to meet their sustainability goals.
