Construction crews are now at work realigning crosswalks at the intersection of Williamson Avenue and College Avenue to make the area safer for pedestrians. The project is scheduled for completion in mid July.
The new plan improves safety for pedestrians by providing improved lines of sight for pedestrians and drivers. This work will involve the sidewalks, curbs and gutters and crosswalks in the area of the Pendulum.
Work began last week on the west side of Williamson Avenue in front of the Pendulum office. Sidewalks and parking will be restricted at various times during construction, as will the sidewalk access between McEwen Dining Hall and McEwen Communications through the archway on Williamson Avenue.
One lane of traffic will remain open when crews are addressing the drainage and sidewalks. When they work on the asphalt replacement, the road will be closed and detours posted.
The Town of Elon has been coordinating with the university and the North Carolina Department of Transportation on the project.
