Alumni, parents and friends of Elon joined coaches Pete Lembo and Matt Matheny for a day on the links at the Washington, D.C., Alumni Chapter's first charity golf tournament. Held Friday, June 11, at 1757 Golf Club in Dulles, Va., the event included a round at Northern Virginia's newest golf course and dinner for the more than 60 attendees.
The team of Brian Agee ’99, Angie Baskette ’01, Ryan Tighe ’02 and Brant Chimel ’99 carded a 53, a stroke better than the second-place foursome led by 2009 alumnus Jeff Casullo.
“We were lucky to get some putts to drop in at the end to put us over the edge,” Tighe said. “We’re all looking forward to next year’s event and will certainly do our best to repeat!”
At the postgame dinner, D.C. Chapter representatives presented a $1,000 check to the Phoenix Club to support Elon’s student-athletes. Afterward, Lembo and Matheny shared with the crowd updates on their respective teams as well as dates to circle on the calendar for their upcoming seasons.
“Having Coach Lembo and Coach Matheny take time out of their extremely busy schedules to make the trip up proves the dedication the Elon athletic department shows toward our alumni network,” Agee says. “We are very lucky to have them as part of our Elon family and are proud to show them our support in return.”
