Colin Donohue, coordinator of student media and instructor in the School of Communications, was selected to receive a 2010 Honor Roll Adviser Award from the College Media Advisers organization.
The award is given to a CMA member with fewer than five years of advising experience—Donohue has advised The Pendulum, Elon’s weekly student newspaper, for three years. He will accept the award during the joint fall convention of CMA and the Associated Collegiate Press on Oct. 28 in Louisville, Ky.
Donohue came to Elon in 2007 after receiving his master’s degree in journalism. He has six years of experience as a contributor and freelance writer for the Burlington Times-News and the Memphis Commercial Appeal. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Elon in 2005.
In addition to advising The Pendulum and its companion website, Donohue teaches Media Writing in the School of Communications, serves as a book reviewer for Newspaper Research Journal and acts as an assistant editor and editorial board member for Media History Monographs. He is also an active member of College Media Advisers (non-daily newspaper division), the Society of Professional Journalists and the North Carolina College Media Association.
