Thomas Erdmann, professor of music, had three 6,000-word articles featured on the cover of the September/October 2010 issue of Saxophone Journal.
They are on contemporary jazz and million unit selling CD artist Gerald Albright, emerging New York based jazz saxophonist Russell Kirk, and Mansfield University in Pennsylvania Prof. of Saxophone Joseph Murphy. In the same issue the Journal’s editor, David Gibson, reviewed Erdmann’s fifth book, How Jazz Trumpeter’s Understand Their Music. He writes, “There is no limitation to (Erdmann’s) writing skills, which set a high standard of excellence… (The book) serves as an inspriation to those who may aspire to becoming a jazz trumpet player, music educator, writer, composer, or music producer.” Gibson goes on to reiterate comments made in the book’s Forward by Dean of the Indiana University School of Journalism and former Elon professor, Dr. Bradley Hamm.
