Thirty-eight high school juniors and seniors from around the region attended an informational event on campus Monday evening to learn more about the teaching profession from students and faculty in the Elon University School of Education.
The Sept. 20 event, held in the Isabella Cannon Room and the Center for the Arts concourse, included presentations from North Carolina Teaching Fellows already enrolled at Elon about their experiences and the benefits of attending the university.
“I was very pleased with the turnout and interest in the Teaching Fellows program,” said education professor Glenda Crawford, who helped organize the event. “The night was a big success and will be instrumental in our recruitment efforts.
“I was especially proud of our Teaching Fellows for their leadership and enthusiasm.”
High school students and their parents learned more about the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship, the Elon Teaching Fellows Program, the Elon School of Education and specific majors such as elementary education, math, science, history, English, Spanish, physical education and music education.
Students from more than 100 public, private and charter high schools from an area that included Wake and Durham counties were invited to attend.
The application deadline for the N.C. Teaching Fellows Scholarship is Oct. 15, 2010.
