Donna Van Bodegraven, associate professor of Spanish, attended the fourth-annual Maya studies conference (known as "Maya at the Playa") in Bunnell, Fla. in early October.
This conference is presented annually by American Foreign Academic Research and The Archaeological Institute of America. Van Bodegraven attended sessions and workshops on deciphering ancient Maya codices, mythology in contemporary Maya communities, Maya women and warfare, depictions of the ball game and the royal court in ancient ceramics, diversity in contemporary Maya culture and recent archaeological discoveries.
