A group of 50 faculty and staff members who are also Elon alumni gathered for a social in McKinnon Hall on Wednesday to discuss alumni giving. The group, which spanned the classes of 1946 to 2010, discussed strategies for increasing the percentage of Elon alumni who make annual gifts to the university. Among the ideas presented was the new Tap Five campaign.
“The premise of the Tap Five campaign is for alumni to reach out and connect with fellow graduates on the subject of giving,” John Barnhill ’92, assistant vice president for university advancement, told the group. “We are encouraging alumni to contact five of their friends and ask them to join in support of this great university and tap five friends as well.”
More than 20 university departments and offices were represented at the event. While their responsibilities and areas of expertise are different, they were united in their love for Elon.
“This event provided a great way to promote unity among alumni who serve Elon as faculty and staff,” says Brian O’Shea ’04, assistant to the vice president for student life and dean of students. “It is important that we work together to support the university.”
The 2010-2011 Faculty/Staff Campaign will provide many opportunities for all university employees to support Elon. Rhonda Belton ’87, director of application technologies, is co-chair of this year’s Faculty/Staff Campaign and says she was happy to see so many faculty and staff turn out for the social.
“I was really excited to see so many faculty and staff alums in attendance and to see how much they care about Elon’s future and that they are willing to reach out to other alumni,” Belton says. “We hope that our alumni are very proud of where Elon is today and that they will want to give back and be part of Elon’s future.”
