Beginning the SoCon tournament, Elon took on Clemson-Purple. Although Elon struggled in the beginning and only led by one point at the half, they brought it together for the second half. Clemson was held at bay, with Elon pulling far ahead of the opposition in the second half of play. Elon was able to carry out a successful first win of the tournament, dominating on breakaways and having a strong offensive presence.
In the second game of the day, Elon needed to come out strong. They held tight and remained within one point of the Clemson B Team throughout the entire game, ultimately losing to sloppy mistakes and lack of communication. The high point was Elon’s strength in the midfield, as their midfielders were able to outrun much of the Clemson defense, allowing offense to capitalize on the Clemson errors.
Ranked fourth in the tournament entering the second day, Elon received a bye in the first round and were to play 5th ranked West Virginia in their first game of the day. In a VERY physical game, Elon overcame an initial deficit to maintain possession for the majority of the game. Their midfield dominated in many crucial checks throughout the center of the field, and consistently won the ball off the draw. While mistakes were made, Elon had every right to be very proud of the stamina and hustle provided by the team.
Advancing in the tournament because of their win against West Virginia, Elon was set to face top seeded Virginia Tech in the semi-finals. Holding them to only one point in the first ten minutes of the game, Tech managed to capitalize on Elon’s slightest mistakes, creating a lead for themselves. In the second half, Elon was able to get many more offensive opportunities, scoring three of their four total goals. While they finally got their playing organized and under control, it was too late in the game and Elon lost to a very, very talented team.

Elon vs. Wake Forest, 36-50 (Loss)
Elon vs. Wake Forest, 59-61 (Loss)
Elon came out strong in the beginning of the game, holding wake scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the game. During a Wake timeout, their coach hyped them up and they came back to get a lead on Elon. This drastic change was hard on Elon, leaving many players with their heads down in disappointment. At half time they tried to regain the intensity and confidence that they began the game with, but unfortunately was not able to overcome. Elon went back in the second half and just could not seem to produce on the offensive end and weren’t boxing out. The result was a loss to Wake 36-50.
With a fresh set of 9 players, Elon once again came out very strong in the first half. Offensively, they were doing much better than the previous game but Wake was producing just as well. It was a hard-fought game for both teams, with the game remaining close for its entirety. Elon was down by 6 in the last few minutes and were able to get 3 more points back by getting the ball back through full court man. Unfortunately, they fell short in the end and lost 59-61.

Elon came out very strong offensively in this weekend’s game. This game was one of the first the semester where passes were connecting and it was obvious that the Elon team had been practicing hard together. Despite the fact that teammates are still learning the playing styles of each other, Elon was really playing the game as a cohesive unit. The first goal came off of a great combination down the left side of the field, with Gardner Allen following through on her run and getting the ball into the back of the net. Shortly before halftime, Bri Taft shot a beautiful ball far post, past the outstretched High Point goalie. Marshall Babcock in goal and the rest of the Elon defense held strong for the remainder of the game, holding High Point to no goals and winning the game 2-0. It really was a team victory for Elon this weekend, with all players contributing to the end result.
