S.M.A.R.T. orientation set for Aug. 28

An orientation for S.M.A.R.T. (Student Mentors Advising Rising Talent) will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. in McKinnon Hall inside the Moseley Center. To access the application, click here .

Established in 1994, the program offers mentorship opportunities to first year multicultural students. Incoming first year students have the option of enrolling in the S.M.A.R.T program during the fall and spring semesters.

This student mentoring program is administered by the Multicultural Center and is designed to facilitate the transition into campus life. As a part of the program, students are assigned to upperclassmen who acquaint first year diverse students with all aspects of Elon. S.M.A.R.T. mentors also assist in identifying student development areas advantageous to student success. Along with actively supporting students, mentors are  charged with orientating the campus community on the complexity of being a student of diverse populations.

Along with a student mentor, participation in the program also includes enrollment in the Academic Enrichment Program. With the assistance of a co-curricular adviser, students in this program learn the strategies necessary to successfully manage their academics throughout their collegiate experience. Co-curricular advisers consist of several faculty and staff that have made a commitment to supporting first year students in their intellectual and social growth during their introduction to college life.

As a member of the S.M.A.R.T. program, incoming first year students are required to attend the orientation, in which students will hear from President Leo M. Lambert, learn more about the program, meet the co-curricular advisers, and get acquainted with their classmates.

All interested first year students are encouraged to fill out the S.M.A.R.T. application, which can be found online at the Multicultural Center’s Website, and attend this orientation.
