Paula Patch, a lecturer in English, delivered a presentation titled “What Do They Know?: (Further) Analysis of Student Essays about Wikipedia” as part of a panel discussion on Teaching English Composition at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association Convention, held Oct. 14-16 in Albuquerque, N.M.
In her presentation, Patch discussed findings from her ongoing classroom-based research about the changing assumptions students, faculty, and other consumers of online information have about Wikipedia, using these findings to point out the ways student writers—and their teachers—can use analysis and argumentation to challenge their own and others’ assumptions about the popular online encyclopedia.
