Amanda Ketner, a senior mathematics major, won the Outstanding Mathematics Education Student Award for the Central Region at the 40th annual conference of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics held Oct. 28-29 in Greensboro, N.C.
Ketner accepted the award from NCCTM president Wendy Rich. Bampia Bangura of North Carolina A&T State University read her citation. Ketner’s dedication to mathematics education through her studies, service, and scholarly work set her well above her peers at the state level.
Ketner also co-presented two sessions at the state conference. “Exploring North Carolina Graphically” shared a data set and investigation which grew out of her statistics work with associate professor Alan Russell. “Bezier Curves have Great Connections” reflects Ketner’s capstone mathematics research with Russell.
