The award is given to a CMA member with fewer than five years of advising experience—Donohue has advised The Pendulum, Elon’s weekly student newspaper, for three years. He accepted the award during the joint fall convention of CMA and the Associated Collegiate Press Oct. 28 in Louisville.

Honor Roll awards are also given out to an adviser of a two-year college newspaper and an adviser of a collegiate broadcast operation.

In addition to advising The Pendulum and its companion website, Donohue teaches Media Writing in the School of Communications. He is an active member of College Media Advisers (non-daily newspaper division), the Society of Professional Journalists and the North Carolina College Media Association.
