James P. Drummond, associate professor in the Sport and Event Management Department, received a special Meritorious Service Award from the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association at the Raleigh Convention Center Nov. 16.
The award honors “long-term tenure of faithful and accomplished service to the field of recreation and parks.” The state association has 2,800 members.
“To be recognized by one’s peers and colleagues for professional accomplishment is truly a superlative in life,” Drummond said. “I am humbled and honored.”
Drummond joined the Elon faculty in 1987 and is the founding department chair of Leisure and Sport Management (recently renamed Sport and Event Management). Before entering academe, he worked with the Tennessee Division of State Parks and attained the position of assistant director of state parks. He served as department chair at Elon for seven years and also served as the university parliamentarian.
