Niki Turley, who has worked with thousands of students as director of Residence Life at Elon University since 2004, has been appointed assistant dean of students effective this week.
Turley will serve as a member of the senior leadership team in Student Life, provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Residence Life program, and serve as the parent ombudsperson and the coordinator of staff professional development for the Division of Student Life.
She will also be a key campus leader in implementing The Elon Commitment objective to create one of the nation’s most vibrant and learning-centered residential campus programs, including the addition of premier facilities for an additional 700 students between fall 2011 and 2014.
Turley holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a bachelor of science in political science from Valdosta State University.
Prior to her arrival at Elon in 2002 to serve as the associate director of Residence Life Operations & Information Management, she was assistant director of Residence Life at Emmanuel College in Boston, and coordinator of the student intern program for Samaritan Gardens for Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Among Turley’s accomplishments at Elon are: creating the award-wining “One. Community. World” residential education programming model; establishing the Faculty/Staff Affiliates program; spearheading the development and transition to The Oaks and the Colonnades (the addition of 800 residential spaces); envisioning and implementing a real time housing sign-up procedure; and crafting one of the finest residential life staffs in the nation.
A search for a new director of Residence Life will begin immediately.
