With sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference on the line, the Elon University women’s basketball team is back home tonight when the Phoenix takes on the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Alumni Gym and admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 12 and under.
Monday marks the 26th all-time meeting between the Phoenix (13-5, 8-2 SoCon) and Mountaineers (14-4, 8-2 SoCon). Appalachian State leads the series, 16-9, after taking the first meeting, 100-67, earlier this season in Boone. Elon has not beat Appalachian State at home in exactly seven years (Jan. 24, 2004).
Elon has a 6-3 mark all-time in games played on Jan. 24, with its last win coming in the form of a 48-39 victory over Longwood in 2007. Monday will mark the second time Elon and Appalachian State have met on Jan. 24, with the Phoenix holding a 1-0 advantage.
Following Monday’s game, Elon plays its final non-conference game of the season on Thursday morning, Jan. 27, when it hosts Southern Virginia at 11 a.m. in the seventh annual Education Day contest. The Phoenix jumps back into Southern Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 29, with a trip to Cullowhee, N.C. to face Western Carolina.
