Phi Alpha Delta chapter at Elon Law gives back to the community during month of October

As part of the fraternity's commitment to advance integrity, compassion and courage through service to the community, Elon's Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) chapter has devoted the month of October to giving back to Greensboro.

Danielle Appelman

“Service has always been and will continue to be a vital part of our professional fraternity,” said Danielle Appelman, Vice Justice of PAD and Service Committee Leader. “PAD decided to dedicate October to service-oriented activities as a way to spread gratitude and social awareness before the Thanksgiving holiday.”

On October 5, PAD partnered with Feeney’s Frozen Yogurt Bar in Greensboro to raise money for the Greensboro Urban Ministry. During the event, Feeney’s donated a portion of their profits to PAD’s efforts to end hunger and homelessness in the community. Members also sold $1 “Buy One, Get One Free” Coupons to customers in order to raise additional funds.

Likewise, on October 9, PAD hosted a Habitat for Humanity build. During the event, members of PAD and the Elon Law community spent several hours helping put up vinyl sliding and assisting in other construction tasks at the work site. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro builds an average of 10-15 homes per year for families in need. PAD has another Habitat Build scheduled for November 8th.

Phi Alpha Delta is also to hosting their first annual Hungry Haunts Halloween Fundraiser on Friday, October 29 at 9 p.m. at Center City Bar and Grille in downtown Greensboro.

“The fundraiser is open to the entire Elon Law community and will be the culmination of a weeklong canned food drive at school to benefit the Greensboro Urban Ministry,” explained Ali Boney, PAD Social Chair. “Students and faculty are encouraged to place cans in designated bins located in Cemala Commons at Elon Law anytime from October 25 until the 29th. The food drive will end with the Halloween Fundraiser on October 29 and admission to the fundraiser is only two cans of food.”

Lastly, PAD is forming a team for the 3rd Annual Greensboro Walk for Wishes. The event will be held on Saturday, October 30th beginning at 9 am at Greensboro’s Bur-Mill Park. All proceeds will go to help grant the wishes of children in the triad with a life-threatening illness. Elon Law friends and family are encouraged to support this great cause by following the link below and joining my team or donating to the cause directly.
