At the 2010 annual meeting of the Business Law, Corporate Counsel and International Law and Practice Sections of the North Carolina Bar Association, Elon Law professor Thomas Molony delivered the North Carolina Business Law Update, reviewing the implications of key business and commercial law cases recently decided by North Carolina courts.
Molony, who has co-authored a series of Business Law Updates over the past year for the North Carolina Bar Association Business Law Section newsletter, Notes Bearing Interest, focused his presentation at the annual meeting on significant cases decided recently by the North Carolina Business Court, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, or the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Specific issues reviewed related to deal protection measures, fiduciary duties, judicial dissolution, choice of forum clauses, and the transfer of guarantees, among other topics.
Molony used a pop quiz format to engage attorneys in some of the important developments in North Carolina business law, an approach used in the past by Alan Palmiter, professor of law at Wake Forest University School of Law, who delivered the annual NC Business Law Update at this annual meeting for many years. Molony said it was an honor to present at this year’s event.
