Campaign Update: Faculty/Staff Campaign reaches $260,000

Pam Brumbaugh and Paul Miller are among the members of the campus community who have made a gift to the 2010-2011 Faculty/Staff Campaign, which is on track to become one of the university’s most successful annual giving drives among employees.

To date, more than 570 employees—or 49 percent of faculty and staff—have contributed $260,000 in gifts and pledges to the campaign.

The goal of this year’s Faculty/Staff Campaign is 55 percent participation among employees. During the 2009-2010 campaign, 420 faculty and staff, or 34 percent, contributed $248,796 to the university. All gifts to the Faculty/Staff Campaign count toward Ever Elon: The Campaign for the Future of Our University, currently in its final year. To date, alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff have contributed about $87 million in gifts and pledges toward the $100 million goal.

Brumbaugh, director of experiential education, supports Elon to enhance the student experience.

“In my work, I am in constant contact with students, and I see the opportunities that they have through internships and other forms of experiential learning,” Brumbaugh says. “I realize the significant role that financial support of Elon plays in making these opportunities possible.”

Brumbaugh adds that faculty and staff can support the university by giving their time and their money.

“It is very important to be part of the percentage that gives back to Elon,” she says. “Elon is a touchstone place where souls gather who want to make a difference, and part of making a difference is supporting the school financially.”

Miller, professor of exercise science, says he gives to Elon because it’s a special place.

“My favorite thing about this university is its sense of community,” Miller says. “I give back because I believe in what we have going at Elon, and I really embrace the values and ideals that this community reflects.”

Miller says he sees the impact of scholarship gifts on students as well as gifts that enhance the broader university community.

“If you look at the university like an organism, it is easy to see how everyone can benefit from gifts made to any location,” Miller says. “Any contribution to Elon, regardless of size, has the potential to free up money elsewhere on campus. Each gift gives the organism (Elon) a better chance to survive and flourish.”

The Faculty/Staff Campaign runs through May 31. You can support what you value most about Elon by making a gift online. Thank you for investing in Elon!
