Yeager Recital Hall, 7:30 p.m.
In the fall of 2010, Gail O’Day became dean of the Wake Forest University School of Divinity. Her scholarly research focuses on the Gospel of John, the Bible and preaching, and the history of biblical interpretation. She has written a number of books and articles, including the commentary on the Gospel of John in The New Interpreters Bible (1996) and most recently, Preaching the Revised Common Lectionary: A Guide (Abingdon Press, 2007).
The annual H. Shelton Smith lecture honors the legacy of Smith, a 1917 graduate of Elon and founder of the NC Council of Churches and of the graduate studies in religion at Duke University. The lecture generally focuses on religion and society, a topic of interest and scholarship by Smith.
