Alexa Milan ’10, Samiha Khanna ’03 honored by North Carolina Press Association

Alexa Milan '10, a reporter for The Sanford (N.C.) Herald, and Samiha Khanna '03, a reporter at Independent Weekly in Durham, N.C., received awards for their work at the annual winter banquet of the North Carolina Press Association.

Milan and co-reporter Jennifer Gentile received a first-place award in education reporting for their coverage of a recognition program implemented in Lee County (N.C.) schools. Milan herself took second place in the category for her report on low test grades and stability concerns at Southern Lee High School last fall.

Milan, a graduate of Elon’s School of Communications, was a longtime reporter and editor for The Pendulum during her time as an undergraduate.

Khanna won a first-place award in news enterprise reporting in the community division for a news package called “Power Failures” about misconduct allegations against the Durham Police Department. Read the full story HERE.
