Alan Russell, associate professor of mathematics, received a grant from the Japan Foundation's Center for Global Partnership. The grant supports his work, "Origami as a Gateway for the Study of Japanese Culture and Society," allows him to strengthen and deepen his work with Clover Garden School, a K-12 charter school in northern Alamance County.
The Japan Foundation’s mission is to strengthen knowledge of the Japanese culture across America’s Southern states, including North Carolina. Much of Russell’s previous work has been with grade-specific bands in various Alamance County schools. This grant represents his first school-wide initiative encompassing work in multiple disciplines from grades K-12.
