David C. Porter of Sudbury, Mass., will be installed as the newest member of the Elon University Board of Trustees at the board's spring meeting, April 15-16. Porter and his wife, Jen, are the parents of Elon senior Tim Porter, and have served on the university's Parents Council and are members of the Founder's Circle of the Elon Society.
Porter is owner and managing partner of Baystate Financial Services, LLC. Baystate employs more than 200 full-time advisers at eight offices in five states, and was named one of the top 100 places to work by the Boston Globe and Boston Business Journal in 2009.
Porter was recently named one of three “most admired CEOs” by the Boston Business Journal and was one of the first inductees into the New England Financial Hall of Fame. He is also a past chairman of the Young Presidents Organization, a former trustee of New England Medical Center Hospitals, Inc., founder of the Baystate Financial Services Charitable Foundation, and host of an annual charity golf tournament and toy drive for children in the Department of Social Services in the Boston and Worcester, Mass., areas.
In February, Porter announced a major gift to endow the Porter Family Professional Development Center in Elon’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. The Porter Center supports student participation in internships as well as networking and job placement activities, among other career initiatives.
Porter grew up in Ramsey, N.J., and has a bachelor’s degree in political science from West Chester University. In addition to their son, Tim, the Porters are parents to daughters Katelyn, Kathryn and Mackenzie and son, Jack.
