Elon University has collected more than 30,000 pounds of material in the first four weeks of the national RecycleMania 2011 contest and is currently in 11th place in North Carolina for the total amount saved from landfills.
RecycleMania week 4 national results for Elon (February 27 – March 5):
Grand Champion Results – 30,013 lbs collected (compared head to head by totals collected)
· Placed 226th out of 493 registered participating schools
· 11th out of 17 in North Carolina
· 2nd out of 7 in the Southern Conference
Per Capita Classic Division – 4.47 lbs./person
· Placed 225th out of 490 registered participating schools
· 9th out of 17 in North Carolina
· 3rd out of 7 in the Southern Conference

Paper Collection – 1.23 lbs./person (1,952 lbs collected)
Cardboard Collection – 1.78 lbs./person (2,885 lbs collected)
Plastic / Aluminum / Glass – 1.46 lbs./person (1,940 lbs collected)
