Elon University has collected more than 36,000 pounds of material in the first five weeks of the national RecycleMania 2011 contest and is currently in 9th place in North Carolina for the total amount saved from landfills.
RecycleMania week 5 national results for Elon (March 6-12):
Grand Champion Results – 36,618 pounds collected (compared head-to-head by totals collected)
• Placed 231st out of 412 registered participating schools
• 9th out of 17 in North Carolina
• 3rd out of 7 in the Southern Conference
Per Capita Classic Division – 5.46 lbs./person
• Placed 220th out of 494 registered participating schools
• 8th out of 17 in North Carolina
• 3rd out of 7 in the Southern Conference
Week 5 breakdown:
Paper Collection – 1.49 lbs./person (1,753 pounds collected)
Cardboard Collection – 2.24 lbs./person (3,072 pounds collected)
Plastic / Aluminum / Glass – 1.73 lbs./person (1,780 pounds collected)
