Associate professor Cindy Fair and Elon alumna Taylor Morrison '10 have co-authored an article published in Midwifery based on Morrison's Elon College Fellows project, “The relationship between prenatal control, expectations, experienced control, and birth satisfaction among primiparous women."
Morrison, a psychology major while at Elon, is currently enrolled in the John Hopkins School of Nursing with plans to become a certified nurse midwife.
The article explored the relationship between perceptions of prenatal control, expectations for childbirth, and experienced control in labor and delivery and how they individually and collectively affect birth satisfaction. Morrison and Fair concluded that experienced control during labor and delivery is an important predictor of birth satisfaction and that medical providers should collaborate with their patients to use techniques that maximize the experience of control especially during labor and delivery.
