The American Studies Program would like to announce its inaugural Award for Outstanding Research in American Studies. The Program will present up to four $100 awards for papers written in the past academic year that best exemplify interdisciplinary research in American culture. Winning papers will be published on the American Studies’ website.
Students are invited to submit 8-15 page papers on subjects that combine knowledge and methods from anthropology, art history, communications, history, law, literature, political science, sociology and other disciplines to interrogate multiple perspectives, recognizing how various individuals, peoples and groups help create American society as well as challenge its institutions, within or outside the United States. We welcome papers on any aspect of American culture, including, but not limited to, comparative ethnic and cultural studies, public culture and visual culture. Students need not be minors in American Studies to submit a paper.
Students may submit their papers, in a Word document (.doc or .rtf) by May 5, 2011 (new extended deadline) to Dr. Crystal S. Anderson, Coordinator, American Studies Program, canderson14@elon.edu. Please direct any questions to Dr. Anderson as well.
