Tony Sawyer, a lecturer and director of bands at Elon University, was awarded the national Paula Crider Award by the Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority at the Wind Ensemble's May 10 concert.

Celebrate the legacy of these faculty and staff as they prepare to leave Elon and begin the next chapter of their lives: Andy Angyal, Herb House, Judith Howard, Ernie Lunsford, Buck McGregor, Kitty Parrish and Kay Riddle.

While at Duke University, associate professor Jon Metzger presented a lecture on the historically significant and influential jazz vibraphonists for a Jazz Masters Symposium, gave a master class for Jazz Studies students, and performed as the featured soloist with the Duke University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of John Brown.

Ann J. Cahill, a prolific scholar who has influenced the field of feminist philosophy and an accomplished professor who has guided hundreds of Elon students for more than a decade, has been named the 2011 Distinguished University Scholar.

A tireless volunteer and advocate for people with disabilities in the community, Stephen Bailey, professor of physical therapy education, is the recipient of the 2011 Periclean Award for Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility.

Created in the fall of 2010, the Student Advocacy Board enables Elon Law students to strengthen trial advocacy skills through participation in annual competitions that draw students from law schools across the country. Members of the Board organize into trial teams, receive coaching from Elon Law professors and accomplished trial attorneys, and compete in multi-day national advocacy competitions.
